14 May What do Veggies and Pilates have in common?
Less than 5% of Australians meet the guidelines for exercise to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Why is it so hard for us to do what we all know is a healthy amount of physical activity each week?
I think we are genetically primed to conserve, rather than exert, energy. As hunter/gatherers, we spent all of our energy to find the amount of food we needed to survive. When we were not moving about to find food, it was all about conserving energy…
Our lifestyle has changed so much since our hunting days, we certainly no longer live the hunter/gatherer lifestyle. As such, we need to make a conscious decision to move!!
Some of my clients tell me that they don’t think they will enjoy their Pilates. My reply is simply, “Pilates are like eating vegetables.”.
We all know that we need to eat PLENTY of veggies each day to be healthy. It might not be fun, but it has to be done.
Pilates is like a wonderfully nourishing veggie soup in winter. It has everything we could possibly need – all in one regime!
In any of our Pilates classes you will be:
– stretching
– building strength
– creating body awareness
– enhancing your mind / body connection and coordination
– breathing deeply
– reducing your stress and encouraging relaxation
Just like a veggie soup which would give you the five serves of daily vegetables in the one hit, Pilates is perfect for us – giving us everything we need physically.
If you struggle to find the motivation to exercise, Pilates is for you. In one session you will get just about everything you need to stay active and strong – the low impact way.
It is my experience that if you start with a great veggie soup to introduce some veggies into your diet, you will most likely find that you start to love vegetables after a while (and the same thing happens with Pilates!!).
If you’re looking for a great Pilates / Veggie Soup, come and see us.
Here at Physio Fit, we provide you with a perfectly balanced mix of movement which we know your body will appreciate. We also have highly qualified and experienced Physiotherapists who teach our Pilates – meaning you get more out of your class (rather than feeding that veggie soup to the dog!). Our team will teach you the correct movements, breathing patterns, and muscle activation so you are safe and get results.
Another bonus of doing Pilates with us is that most Private Health Funds pay for at least half of your classes, as they recognise the value of Pilates in the prevention of health issues (such as Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, spinal injuries, postural strain, and other preventable issues). Because our classes are taught by Physiotherapists, you can claim through the Physio cover of your Private Health Fund.
Remember, starting to exercise has got to be a conscious decision. Research shows that you can’t simply wait to be motivated… or it will never happen!
Just like a warming veggie soup in winter, Pilates is the PERFECT way to get started and set up a good routine. It gives you all that you need (like that nourishing veggie soup) and before you know it, you’ll LOVE coming to class.
