How we can speed up the healing of “Tennis Elbow” (Lateral Epicondylagia)

Most people who have experienced tennis elbow will tell you that it’s a frustrating condition which often requires a long journey to recovery. Because of this, anything that assists the body to heal can be particularly helpful. In addition to exercise and hands on treatment, did you know that dry needling, kinesio taping, and laser therapy can express your healing process? Let’s talk about these three modalities and how they can help.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling (sometimes called “Western Acupuncture”) is a technique which involves careful and skilled insertion of acupuncture needles into the right musculoskeletal structure in the body, typically for the purpose of pain relief and tissue healing.  While the exact mechanism isn’t fully understood, it is thought to work by modulating pain signals sent by the nervous system and increasing blood flow to assist healing. Our therapists are well trained in the safest application techniques and because the needles are very fine, most people report minimal discomfort on application and often must less discomfort than before application.

Laser

Our laser combines two specific wavelengths: 808nm to reduce inflammation, and 905nm to provide pain relief. It also has the benefit of increasing blood flow to the target area. This helps to facilitate and augment the body’s healing response to the injured tissue, which optimises recovery.

Kinesio Taping

This approach involves strategically placing kinesio tape (of a specific tension) on a body part to help with swelling reduction, pain reduction, and muscle facilitation or inhibition. It acts as an adjunct treatment to further protect injured tissue, facilitate correction of faulty recruitment patterns, and augment the activation and conditioning of muscles necessary for your recovery.

While these techniques are often of tremendous help with stubborn conditions like tennis elbow, they can also be applied with great efficacy to most areas of the body.
